Onions: 4 large Buttermilk (or milk): as directed Cornmeal: 2 cups Salt: 1 tsp Black pepper: 1/8 tsp |

Peel and slice the onions to ¼-inch thickness.
Separate into rings. Soak the rings in milk for 30 minutes. Drain. Mix the cornmeal, salt and pepper. Coat the rings in the cornmeal mixture and drop into deep oil heated to 375°. Fry until golden, then drain on paper towels.
Serve immediately.
