Hungarian Goulash with Noodles

Serves 6 people

1 lb. beef, cut into ¾-inch cubes
2 Tbsp. brown sugar
3 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
6 Tbsp. ketchup
3 Tbsp. flour
2 medium onions, minced
1¼ tsp. paprika
1¼ tsp. salt
¾ tsp. vinegar
1½ cups water

1 (6 oz.) pkg. wide noodles


Brown meat on all sides in a frying pan in a small amount of oil. Add onions to the browned meat.

Combine paprika, brown sugar and salt and add to the browned meat.

Combine Worcestershire sauce, vinegar and ketchup. Add to the meat along with 1 cup of the water. Stir, then cover and cook over low heat for 2-1/2 hours or until meat is very tender.

Blend flour with remaining 1/2 cup water and add to the meat mixture. Stir until thickened.

Boil noodles in salted water until tender and drain.

Serve meat mixture over noodles.
